Carb Caps

Although they’re not 100% necessary to consume concentrates, if you’re serious about dabbing, a carb cap will take your dabbing experience to the next level. You use a carb cap with a domeless nail where it acts as a lid for your banger that allows you to dab at lower temperatures, allowing you to reap the full benefits of your concentrates. Another added benefit is the ability to direct the airflow, which helps to cut down on product waste. Because no one wants to see their product literally go up in smoke vapor. When you dab without a carb cap, you’re forced to take your dabs at higher temperatures which obliterate the terpenes in your concentrates. For those unfamiliar with terpenes, they are the active compounds responsible for your concentrate’s flavor, not to mention they can also alter your entire dabbing experience. With the carb cap restricting airflow and helping your banger to stay heated for longer, you’re effectively turning your banger into a small convection oven. You’ll receive the optimal amount of flavor when you decide to utilize a carb cap in your setup.

Different Carb Caps

With the popularity of dab rigs on the rise in recent years, other components and accessories are hitting the market in droves. With everything from dabbing tools and stands to hold said tools, to adapters that allow you to use with your bong, it can be overwhelming figuring out what you need for the best dabbing experience. Carb caps are unquestionably at the top of any serious dabbing enthusiast’s list. With so many carb cap options available; it can be difficult to choose which is ideal for you and your setup. From disc carb caps to spinner carb caps, and even dab tools with built-in carb caps, there’s a lot to choose from. So, we’ll briefly go over some of the most popular forms of carb caps you should be aware of.

Standard

This is the most basic of all carb cap designs, with its only actual job being able to cover or “cap” a hole. They can craft them from ceramic, titanium, or glass, with quartz being highly sought after thanks to its durability and heat retention capabilities. Most standard carb caps typically feature a round shape to cover the banger to keep the temperatures nice and low. One drawback to these types of carb caps is they don’t offer effortless control over the airflow. To combat this, it’s necessary to lift and move around the piece as you’re about to inhale. With the wide range of color schemes and designs available from some of the top glass artists in the world, you should have no trouble finding one that you’ll like.

Disc

For those who want a more effortless experience, a disc carb cap might be what you’re looking for. They feature a flat bottom that lies flush with the top of your banger along with multiple etched channels that generate a cool little vortex inside your banger as you pull air through. The disc lies flat on the nail where the etched channels work as inlets, allowing a continuous stream of spinning air to eliminate any pools of gunk that may have accrued. These are ideal for bigger-sized bangers where you simply place it on top of a 30 or 35mm banger and give it a few spins to enjoy your sweet vapor. It works by capturing the heat while allowing the perfect amount of air in, while you inhale.

Bubble

This carb cap design garners its name from, you guessed it, its ball or bubble-like form. Due to their bulbous shape, these are ideal for use with a round, flat top banger. They feature a hole in the top and bottom which creates a pathway to allow airflow as the outer circular shape fits snugly on your banger which creates, you guessed it, a carb. Its round shape allows the user to rotate the cap around the banger with ease which can allow the vapors to spread faster, this creates a much more efficient and flavorful dabbing session. Utilizing the perfect, natural bubble shape can work wonders with big and small dabs alike. By evenly moving your concentrates around the nail, you’re much less likely to leave any material behind. And less waste always makes a happy dabber!

Spinner

The directional carb cap (popularly referred to as a spinner) is one of the most popular types of carb caps available. They operate by controlling the airflow via special grooves which force the air to travel around the banger via a mini vortex. The resulting airflow is intense enough to force the concentrates to move all around the bottom of the banger which allows them to vaporize fast. This provides you with more control over the airflow, which helps to reduce waste. By distributing your oil evenly with a spinner carb cap, you can set your dab tool aside until it’s time to apply your next dab. And if you’re familiar with terp pearls (those little balls that spin in the banger), they work fantastically with a spinner carb cap to disperse the heat even and more consistently.
